Lato Milk sponsors River Rwizi Marathon 2023

We run to get in shape and enhance our health, but running to rescue our future transcends the sensation of accomplishment, and Ugandans ran with only one aim in mind: to save the Rwizi River. This year, over 2,500 people came prepared and warmed up for the race of a lifetime.

River Rwizi must be saved, and as Lato, we are committed to restoring River Rwizi for the diversity of freshwater ecosystems, reviving natural river flows, and cleaning up polluted water so that both humans and nature can exist. The previous year, our initiative of the plastic waste bunker was a collaborative effort with other partners to find a long-term solution to minimizing the quantity of plastic garbage that ends up in our water, especially in River Rwizi.

This year’s Marathon kicked off from Mbarara Golf Course grounds on the 30th of July 2023, at 7:00 am, and the 5km, 10km, and 21km marathon was flagged off by Ivan Tuhumbise of WWF Uganda and was led by Moses Kipsiro.

The finish line was definitely the determination, dedication, and devotion of people coming together for a good cause, and by deciding to save the River Rwizi, you not only contributed to the donations for this cause, but you also invested in your physical well-being and health. It’s a win-win scenario and just as compelling a reason as any to get to your feet and run for your lives, literally.

Highlights:

  • Masaka Kids’ thrilling and enthusiastic performance served as a reminder that even after a fantastic run, we can still be on our feet and shake a leg.
